Since his earliest days, Amsterdam’s electronic pioneer Steve Rachmad has worked under a legion of monikers. Among these are Black Scorpion, Tons of Tones, Scorp, Parallel 9, Ignacio, and Dreg – names that represent different facets of his limitless sonic universe. But one of the main creatures living on Planet Rachmad has always been STERAC, a side of his musical personality that’s not easily reduced. Both in the studio and the DJ booth, he oscillates around dark, no-nonsense techno, often (re-)telling the story of the mid-1990s Dutch rave scene in which he played a pivotal role connecting the dots between the Netherlands and Detroit.
