Kode9 boasts a musical CV that’s big enough to take up multiple pages. As the founder of Hyperdub, the cutting-edge London label that turns 20 this year, he’s responsible for platforming the work of experimental masterminds like Burial, Laurel Halo, DJ Rashad, Ikonika and Fatima Al Qadiri. As a DJ and producer, Steve Goodman was a founding member of the UK’s early dubstep scene—still citing the British ‘hardcore continuum’, from jungle and 2-step to dub and dancehall, as his driving force—and has released five full-length albums since 2006. And then there’s the artist’s academic work, through which he’s studied, amongst others, contemporary sonic culture and the use of sound as torture. With Kode9’s set at Dekmantel Selectors still fresh on our minds, we can’t wait to welcome this sound veteran to the Amsterdam forest.
